Tenerife officially launches new direct Air Canada connections to Canada

Tenerife will have four weekly direct flights to Toronto and Montreal this winter, strengthening the island’s connectivity with the North American market.

6 July 2026 - Tenerife has officially presented the new direct air connections with Canada operated by Air Canada, marking an important step in the island’s strategy to diversify and expand its international markets.

Starting in October, Air Canada will operate four weekly flights between Tenerife South Airport and Toronto and Montreal throughout the winter season, with two weekly frequencies to each city. The new routes will be operated with the airline’s new Airbus A321XLR, offering 182 seats, including 14 in Signature Class and 168 in Economy.

The new connections were presented at the MUNA in an event attended by representatives from the Government of the Canary Islands, the Tenerife Island Council, Turismo de Tenerife and Air Canada, as well as representatives from the island’s tourism and business sectors.

Tourism authorities highlighted the strategic importance of the new routes in strengthening Tenerife’s presence in North America, a priority market with significant growth potential. The direct connections are expected to support tourism while also facilitating business travel, academic exchanges, cultural links and opportunities in sectors such as the audiovisual industry.

For Air Canada, Tenerife is an important addition to its Spanish network and the only direct connection between Tenerife and North America. The new routes will provide passengers with direct access to Toronto and Montreal, as well as onward connections across Canada, the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean and South America through Air Canada’s hubs.

Growing North American market

Tenerife received 51,174 passengers from Canada and the United States in 2025, including 7,130 from Canada and 44,044 from the US. Passenger numbers from these markets have doubled compared with 2019, highlighting their growing importance for the destination.

Between January and May 2026, Tenerife airports received 22,168 passengers from North America, including 17,430 from the US and 4,738 from Canada.

The new Air Canada routes reinforce Tenerife’s international connectivity and its positioning as a leading Atlantic destination for the North American market, particularly among visitors seeking year-round sunshine, nature, culture, gastronomy, marvellous golf courses and authentic experiences.
